Each serpent is painted without sketch, correction, or revision. Once the brush touches the paper, there is only the living conversation between ink, breath, brush (form) and empty space. The painting cannot be repeated because the moment itself cannot be repeated.Thus each serpent is the capturing of the spirit of the moment it was created
My work is rooted in twelve years of Vajrayāna retreat practice and nearly two decades as a professional astrologer. Both disciplines have taught me that the deepest understanding does not arise by forcing outcomes. It appears when the mind becomes quiet enough to meet the present moment completely. These paintings are born from that practice. They are born in the present.
The sumi-e tradition honors the eloquence of simplicity, the vitality of a single gesture, and the spaciousness that allows form to breathe. What remains unpainted is as essential as the ink itself. Each serpent emerges from this meeting of presence and emptiness, where nothing can be added without diminishing it. I have gone to the waters and painted 10 000 serpents, allowing them to take form as their own beings that speak for themselves dramatically when in your presence.
The serpent has long been a symbol of wisdom, renewal, vital energy, and the mysterious current of life moving through all things. Every painting is a singular encounter. It exists only because this moment existed, and it will never arise in the same way again.
